At Kantabile Afrika, it’s the people who make the magic happen, and sometimes the quietest heroes are working behind the scenes to add the final touches that make a stay with us extra special. This month, we shine the spotlight on Beatrice, one of our cherished housekeepers whose warm smile, big heart, and eye for detail help create that feeling of home in the Serengeti. Get to know the woman who brings heart and care into your home away from home.
What makes you stand out from the others in the Kantabile team?
My contagious smile and my energy – I love to sing and dance! I’m a Cancer, and people sometimes mistake our “guarded” nature as shyness. But once you get to know me, you’ll see I’m full of life.
What makes you a great housekeeper?
I pay close attention to detail, and I care for nature. I also trust my intuition when it comes to anticipating what guests might need. Even though I’m small, I surprise people with how strong I am. I often help guests with their bulky luggage and they’re always surprised! [Giggles] That’s usually when we start chatting.
What do you like about your job?
I love making magic happen behind the scenes. When guests return from a game drive and find their tent beautifully refreshed, it brings me joy to know I’ve created a home for them in the wild. I enjoy the small, meaningful interactions, like walking guests to their rooms and sharing stories along the way. When they notice the care and love I’ve put into their space, it means a lot to me. I also like playing a vital, supporting role to my teammates, we are like a family.
What motivates you?
Personal growth. I’m always looking to improve and become a better version of myself. I love learning, especially languages and new cultures. Every day brings something new.
What’s your favourite animal and why?
Dik-dik. They are small and cute and I love that they always stay in pairs.
If not housekeeping, where do you see yourself a few years down the road?
I’ve always been interested in animal behaviour and wildlife ecology, even from my school days. Maybe one day, I’ll become a safari guide!
