At Kantabile Afrika, our guides are the heart and soul of every safari experience. This month, we sat down and had a chat with one of our incredible guides Stephen, whose passion for wildlife and warm hospitality leaves every guest with unforgettable memories.
What do you love most about guiding?
“I love the animals and the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Every day is unique—different guests, different animal behaviours, and new experiences. Guiding allows me to learn so much, not just from nature, but also from the fascinating stories and perspectives of the people I meet.”
What’s your favourite animal and why?
“The leopard. They’re hard to find, and there’s such a sense of achievement when you spot one. They’re beautiful creatures, part of the Big Five, and I love their colours.”
What does a perfect day’s guiding look like?
“A perfect day would be taking guests on a game drive and spotting the Big Five all in one day. The best part is finding the animals the guests had their hearts set on seeing.”
How did you become a guide?
“My journey started at home. My dad was a guide, and before that, he was a chef at a lodge, so I grew up hearing bush stories. My brother was a guide too. They inspired me to follow in their footsteps. After informal training at home, I went to college to get my official qualifications.”
Why did you become a guide?
“It’s what I’ve always wanted to do. Coming from a family of guides, it just felt like a calling. I didn’t think of much else—it’s in my blood.”

“I work hard to make our guests happy and ensure they’ll never forget what they experienced here. I love sharing interesting moments, being funny, and entertaining. It’s all about creating a memorable, meaningful experience for our guests.”
