Enticingly close to the Mara River where the wildebeest herds make their annual journey in search of greener pasture, Aurari Camp offers a rejuvenating sanctuary amid the wilds of the Serengeti.
Settle into a beautifully appointed tent and feel the rhythms of the savannah infuse the canvas as life takes on a different beat.
The total indoor living area of each guest tent is a generous 50 square metres, with a spacious bedroom in the centre, a lounge area wing and a bathroom wing, plus an outdoor private verandah. Each beautifully appointed guest tent has a distinctive African flavour to the interior design, making a stay at Aurari Camp a unique and immersive experience.
With a northerly aspect towards the Mara River in Northern Serengeti and neighbouring Maasai Mara, the mesmerizing views at Aurari Camp are what dreams are made of. From the privacy of the cozy tented suites, guests could gaze long into the multi-coloured layers that blend harmoniously together as if the scenery was painted on a canvas by a virtuoso landscape artist.
Perfect as a base for Great Migration safaris or a retreat away from the herds of tourists huddled in Kogatende, happy campers will surely be dazzled by Kantabile Afrika’s characteristically warm hospitality.
Fascinated by the nomadic concept of mobile camping pioneered in Tanzania but need a bit more creature comfort? Not fussed about the bells and whistles offered at 5-star luxury safari lodges but yearn for a well-designed hotel room? I think we’ve got just the perfect place for you.

We designed Aurari Camp with the intention of providing the highest level of comfort, while retaining the essence of “tented camping”. In each of the spacious guest suites, you will find well-placed amenities throughout the cozy lounge, oversized bedroom and gorgeous bathroom.
With sustainability at the forefront of our design, we have chosen to do away with swimming pools and bathtubs, in favour of water-saving rain showers. Aurari Camp is primarily solar-powered. There is a silent back-up generator available for those cloudy days.
Hot water for tea and coffee and cold drinks are brought to your room on demand, so you can sip your favourite beverage on your private veranda when you wake up in the morning or at sundown when you get back from safari.
Each of the spacious tented suite boasts 50m² of interior living area, not including the additional decked space outside of the canvas structure. Thoughtful design is one of the founding principles of the Kantabile Afrika ethos. Much thought has gone into the planning and construction to make natural use of shade and elevation to reduce cooling need and energy consumption through passive design.
Beyond functional engineering are the fine touches like warm lighting, plush bedding, artisan furniture and handmade decorations created with locally sourced materials. We understand that a hotel stay is an intimate experience where guests need to feel safe and welcomed while being away from home. Extra care has gone into every element to ensure that each guest is comfortably accommodated while staying with us.
Our suites can be furnished with a king-size bed or a couple of large twin beds in the main bedroom. And for families travelling with young children, an extra queen-size bed or a pair of smaller twin beds can be fitted in the adjoining lounge.

Formed deep within the earth through the crystalization of silica-rich magma, granite is one of the most abundant igneous intrusions in the continental crust. It is believed to have grounding and stabilizing qualities. There is nothing more magical than watching the sun go down while sitting on a giant granite boulder in the middle of the wilderness—a special experience available at Aurari Camp.

Just south of the equator, one of the world’s most magnificent wildlife migrations springs into action in the Serengeti. Nearly three million grazing animals—wildebeests, zebras and gazelles, among others—embark on an epic journey around the Serengeti ecosystem, following seasonal rains and the nourishing grasses that grow in their wake. During June and the subsequent months, nearly 2 million wildebeest make their dramatic crossing of the Grumeti and Mara rivers, an iconic safari spectacle that draws onlookers—and crocodiles—from near and far. Some herds may pay the Maasai Mara a brief visit when searching for fresh pastures, while most herds remain in Northern Serengeti, until November when they begin heading south again. The antelopes continue their journey to reach their home in Central Serengeti, before moving farther into the southern plains to sire calves before the cycle begins anew.
Aurari Camp, a design-forward boutique safari camp, is located on the hillside of an area called Wogakuria south of the Mara River, right next to some impressive granite boulders that Simba from the Lion King movie would be proud of.
There is no bad time to visit the Serengeti. Every season has its own special highlights—even the rainy season offers spectacular lightning shows and glistening grasslands to look forward to. Changing seasons and light patterns form the most beautiful backdrop to view Africa’s majestic wildlife.
The Great Migration is a wondrous sight, as magnificent herds of animals traverse plains and forests, staying true to their ancient instinct to move for forage. July to October is the long dry season and the Great Migration moves north with the thundershowers – the driving force of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. As the migrating herds set north in majestic masses toward the Mara River and beyond, the lucky ones are awarded with food on the other side while the unfortunate few become food for hungry crocodiles waiting beneath the calm water surface.
The Serengeti offers diverse habitats, ranging from wooded forests to open plains, to a plethora of animals, roving or leaping, flying or crawling. Serengeti National Park is home to Africa’s “Big Five” – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalos. This ancient ecosystem continues to thrive and boasts the largest mass of free-ranging animals on earth on its 14,763 square kilometres. Giraffes, elands, hartebeests, topi and lesser kudu are often seen grazing in the park and lesser-known species, such as lilac breasted rollers, add a splash of colour to the endless plains of the Serengeti. This is one of the best places in the world to spot lions dozing off in a shade, leaping after a marked prey or gnawing off a share of their hunt.
The African wilderness is the ultimate setting to achieve true wellness, restoring your mind, body, and soul. There is no better time than the period when the wildebeest herds have ventured south, the rains have given a new life to the savannah, and the tourists and vehicles have come and gone. It is the season that we set new intentions and reset our journey.

While we can assign the closest unit to the main area and offer steps to assist passengers in embarking and disembarking the safari vehicle upon request, note that we do not have a decked walkway at the moment, nor do we have handrails inside the tents. One needs to walk up a few steps to access our elevated deck and step inside the tent.
All 6 of our tented suites are the same size and have the same layout—with the main bedroom in the middle, an adjoining lounge to the left and an ensuite bathroom to the right. We can transform the lounge into an additional bedroom after turndown, by making an extra queen-size bed or a pair of small twin beds, depending on the requirement. A curtain can be drawn to separate the partitions. We do not have interconnecting units with separate bathrooms.
The Bologonja border has been closed since 1977. There is no direct access to the Serengeti from Maasai Mara (despite what Google Maps show). The easiest way to travel to Northern Serengeti is via the Isebania border west of Serengeti/Maasai Mara. Scheduled flights stop at Tarime and Migori and airlines provide shuttles between the 2 border towns.
Alternatively, you may skip the road transfer by hiring a charter plane and have the immigration procedures done at Musoma and Kisumu (until the new international airports are completed).
We use Kogatende Airstrip south of the Mara River.
